Introduction

With the storm season approaching, participants might want to explore
postures that build strength and flexibility for better functionality in the waves. Breathing techniques for improving the breath cycle: inhalation, exhalation, retention and suspension, are included.

The process of breathing can be broken down into four stages:     
Puraka (Inhalation)    
Antar Kumbhaka (Retention)    
Rechaka (Exhalation)    
Bahya Kumbhaka (Suspension)

Each of these stages produces a particular state of awareness that varies with the association that is based-on one's personality and experience. A focused practice of the four phases facilitates the comprehension of a participant's underlying mental processes, allowing greater mental and breath control.

Breath is the driver for movement in for any physical activity, not just yoga. We create rhythmic movements as we create rhythm for our breath. This basic principle is the basis of movement in yoga, but not just physical movements. The quality, function, and control of breathing is directly impacted by the quality of thoughts, feelings, and emotions. That is, our breath reflects our state of mind.
